Black+Decker 20V MAX Battery Pin-Out

The photo below shows the pin-out on the battery:

The pin on the right is the positive terminal. The pin on the left is the negative terminal. It's unknown what the two middle pins are for.

Black+Decker 20V MAX Charger Pin-Out

The photo below shows the pins on the Porter Cable 20V MAX charger. Vendors sell this same charger for Black+Decker 20V MAX batteries. See "Related Links" section below.

The charger interfaces to all four pins on the battery. But like the battery, it doesn't provide any clues to what the middle pins do. The pin on the left is the positive terminal. The pin on the right is the negative terminal.

Black+Decker 20V MAX Power Tool Pin-Out

The photo below shows the pins on the Black+Decker 20V MAX Cordless Garden Cultivator LGC120:

As you can see from the photo above, the cultivator only uses three out of the four pins. In order to figure out how the tool operates with the battery, we ripped up a piece of paper to cover the middle pin that the power tool interfaces to as shown in photo below.

We discovered that the cultivator will not operate with that pin insulated. We measured the resistance of that pin to the negative terminal and found the resistance is 10000 ohms, or 10 kilo-ohms.

Compatibility with Porter Cable 20V MAX

After watching the following video, we learned that Black+Decker 20V MAX and Porter Cable 20V MAX are compatible electronically, although not physically.
