Porter Cable 20V MAX Power Tools Battery Interface

The Black+Decker 20V MAX power tool uses 20-volt lithium ion (Li-Ion) battery packs. The battery packs contains five 3.6v lithium ion power cells that provides 18v and peaks at 20v when charged.

The photo below shows the pins on the Porter Cable 20V MAX Cordless LED Flashlight PCC700B:

You can see from the photo above, the flashlight uses three out of four pins.

In order to figure out how the tool operates with the battery, we insulated the middle pin with a piece of paper. We discovered that the flashlight still worked without the middle pin.

But it's quite possible that other Porter Cable power tools utilizes the middle pin. So we measured the resistance of that pin to the negative terminal and found the resistance is 10000 ohms, or 10 kilo-ohms.

Compatibility with Black+Decker 20V MAX

After watching the following video, we learned that Black+Decker 20V MAX and Porter Cable 20V MAX are compatible electronically, although not physically.
