IDrive wont close-intermittant

Ive got an Idrive on a single car garage with a metal door, far from heavy or taxing on the unit. Ive had to replace it more than once over the years and this unit is probably 3 years old.

Problem has started and getting more frequent where it will open and then refuse to close, regardless of the remote used. Motor doesnt even try to engage, BEEP, BEEP, CHIRP is all you get.

releasing the unit and the door is balanced and runs smooth as far as I can tell, no binding. No obstruction on the lasers and they seem aligned. Only thing odd is MAYBE it seems to start a bit fast of rough when opening, but that might just be perception. Ive never really paid that much attention when it was working right so I might be nitpicking.

So the unit will not go down until I reprofile. Reprofiling is the only command that wont BEEP BEEP Chirp. it runs its cycle, and then will proceed to work for anywhere from a day to a few weeks.

driving me nuts.

I was going to suggest re-profiling. Apparently, the heat/cool cycle had changed your door characteristic enough to need a profile. I usually had to do it once every six months down here in Los Angeles.

Just curious, what part of the country do you live in?

The instruction manual says the following:

Symptom: Door does not move and the Opener beeps two times.
Probable Cause: The install routine has not been performed.
Corrective Action: Perform the install routine Steps 32 and 33.

It seems like your idrive is loosing its memory some how. Does that AC outlet loose power sometimes? Or maybe its circuit board is going bad.

isnt the install routine basically the profile routine? As I stated im having to do that just to get it to respond again.
Who owns these things now, could a circuit board even be procured for these anymore? Is it even worth it? There just is no clearance in my unit for a traditional opener. I dont even know if id have the side clearance for one of those new side mounted units.

I believe the install routine is the same as the profile routine. Sadly, Wayne Dalton has discontinued the idrive. So I'm not sure if it is still possible to get parts. Definitely give Wayne Dalton a call to see whether they will bring this product line back or their current plans.
