Wayne Dalton 3663-372 Does Not Engage Motor

I have a Wayne Dalton garage door opener. Model 3663-372. When I push the up/down button the motor just spins. The problem is that what I will call the interlocking mechanism will not engage. I took the cove off and was able to push the ring so that the interlocking would engage. But, when I push the up/down button the door goes only part way up and they slip out. I suspect that a spring that holds it in place is either loose or broke. Is this problem fixable?
Thanks.
