Ergonomic Children Table

Adjustable-height children table is really difficult to find.

I've been looking for one this past week, but there are hardly any on the market. Most of the adjustable height tables I found aren't for children. They usually adjust from from 28" and up. An adult table height is approximately 28"!

So far, I've only found one adjustable-height children table that fits my need. And that's the Community PlayThings' MultiTable with medium legs. The range of the medium legs are 16" to 24". But the table price starts at $164 and up! Take a look at their Chair and Table Height Guidelines

Non-adjustable children table are relative inexpensive. Toys R Us has a Transformers Wood Table and Chair Set for $29.90 online. It's being cleared out in store for $39.99. However, I feel children deserve as much ergonomics as us adults. So I am definitely going to either buy or make an adjustable table for my children.

Lowes and Home Depot has these pre-made legs of all different length and style for you to make your own table and chairs. They comes with 5/16"-18 screw studs that could be screwed into metal plates. You can mount metal plates into a tabletop or a chair. Depending on the length of the leg, pricing starts at approximately $2.98. The metal plate costs approximately $2 a piece. Based on my eye-ball calculation, each set of legs costs approximately $10 to $20 dollars. Over the lifetime of the table, it'd cost $60 to $100 to change legs. And that's without a tabletop.

The Toys R Us Transformers Wood Table and Chair Set also uses 5/16" table legs. But the thread is finer. I suspect it uses a 5/16"-24 thread, therefore, I couldn't use the pre-made table legs with the Transformers Wood Table and Chair Set.

I have two possible tabletops I could use in my patio. So it'd down to make my own for about $100 or buy the Community PlayThings' $162 table. Hmmmm . . .

Forgot to mention that I found these Hafele adjustable legs. Not real pretty looking, but will get the job done.

  • Leg Top, Assembly - $19.74 per set
  • Lower Leg Straight - 315mm (12-1/2") High - $23.20 per set

This route brings the cost of the table down to $42.94. But could take up to 5 weeks for shipment. The parts are being discontinued. And so far I've found no other source for them.

Therefore, the decision on how to acquire ergonomic children chair is a much easier one than the ergonomic children table. I'll have to make it myself; most likely from pre . . .
