Apple FanboyismA lot of products have fans. But Apple fans seems to be a completely different breed. It seems everyone knows about Apple fanboys. They are always the one who jumps up and scream when anyone make a small critical comment against Apple. It's normal, human nature to be defensive and protective of what you like. But why is there perception that Apple fanboyism is so much stronger than fanboyism for any other products? The answer to this question has been vague for years. And it was vague to me. At one time, I did come up with a guaranteed test to determine whether an article is an Apple fanboy article. (I really should post that test.) Although it can detect an Apple fanboy article, it doesn't clearly answer where the strong Apple fanboyism perception comes from. Except, I learned the answer today. The answer stemmed from a CNET article titled, "Android leaps beyond RIM to take top spot in U.S. market". This article explains that Android phones now have the most market share compared to any other SmartPhones. Immediately, Apple fanboys has first strike in the comments. But it wan't until much further down in the comments did the answer strike me. These two comments showed up two thirds way down. And I have read tons of comments from Apple fanboys crying foul. But as of these two comments, not one RIM fanboy cried foul. And if you observe the title of that new article closely, you'll realize the article is about Android and RIM; Apple happened to show up in the article as a casualty of the phone industry. Still, Apple fanboys screamed, while RIM fanboys carried on with life as nothing matters. RIM fanboys, I applaud you for your exception display of sportmanship. From this analysis, I can conclude strong Apple fanboyism is not just a perception, it really does exist. From this experience, it's now very obvious that Apple creates product fanboys, while other companies creates product users. Who should you be? I don't know. You decide. Chieh Cheng
