Refilling the HP Black Print Cartridge 21 (C9351A)Inkjet print cartridges costs a lot of money. And recently, they've become smaller and smaller. Take, for example, my brand new HP Deskjet D1341. I just put this printer into service so I can print out all my tax return forms. After printing this year's return, a return from last year, and a few other things, the print cartridge is already empty. The HP Deskjet D1341 uses the HP Black Print Cartridge 21 (C9351A), shown in the photograph below. This ink cartridge seems to be half the size of the previous generation cartridges. Attached Image: Chieh Cheng So, sitting here at midnight, half-way printing through last year's tax return, the ink cartridge is out of ink again. Rather than driving out to Wal-mart in the middle of the night to pick up a new cartridge, I decided to play around with it. I used an Xacto knife to peel back the label on top of the cartridge. And viola, the ink filling hole is revealed (see photo below). What ink to use? I happen to have a pack of Universal Inkjet Refill Kit in my office. Those are usually good bets. Well, what do you know? As I'm finishing this post, my 24 page tax return just finished printing using the new refilled ink. The document looks flawless. Attached Image: Chieh Cheng Thanks for the tip dude! Note it's the hole in the center - I already started drilling in the corner niche before I looked at the picture more closely. קיקה thanks for telling dude! William Hi Thanks for the info. I have been drilling out another hole and this sure looks faster and cleaner. I just peeled back the label on a 97 color and there are three openings for the three colors. Sure beats drilling out three holes. johnconrad Brilliant - thanks so much for the tip! I came across this when searching for this replacement cartridge, but now I'll just buy the refill kit. Jennifer Payne How do you remove lots of refill ink from your hands !?? Elpasoan I know what you mean. It's difficult to come off. Use lots of soap. What doesn't come off right away will come off after a few days. Now I try not to get any ink on myself. But that's still a challenge. Chieh Cheng Hey guys...(leave it to men), you can wear a pair of disposable gloves. :) Dianne Haha, you are right, Dianne. I haven't thought of that . . . even though I see my wife use disposable gloves all the time. Chieh Cheng BRILLIANT! Thanks for the great tip and screenshots! I don't know why but the refill pack I bought instructs to fill the top right of the four holes in the catridge....Was about to try and drill a hole in my cartridge!:P Pierre Rohloff Hey, I was wondering if it was necessary to reset the chip on the top of the cartridge some how. Karl Langdon There is a chip on top of the cartridge? How do you reset it? Chieh Cheng use bleach to clean hands stains tony It has a chip, but not in bottom !@#$%^& good idea i too have the same model cartridge dhayanithi Great Thanks, DAVE GREEN
