Mac OS X Guide for Windows Users

There're a few. Cyberduck, Fetch, Fugu, etc.

You might also want to try macfuse, which allows you to mount a remote directory over ssh among other things. The GUI for macfuse is macfusion.

Hey! Thanks for these suggestions. Being new to Mac OS X, I have never heard of these software you mentioned. But I look forward to see what they do.

"But a freeware Sound Recorder is available for Mac OS X, which produces QuickTime MOV files."

Really? Really?!

I don't want to make MOV files! They're bloated! They're proprietary! They're overkill!
