Use SGA Reader 2 to Modify Dawn of War II CampaignMuch like other Relic Games, Dawn of War II uses programmable scripts and configurations that are easy to modify. In developer mode, you can change the game quite easily to do your bidding. The scripts and configuration files are packed into "game assets" files with ".sga" extension, which are located in the "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war 2\GameAssets\Archives" directory. In order to unpack the files to modify, you'll have to use a tool like SGA Reader 2. (I've attached the version that works below for your convenience.) Once you have the game assets open, extract the files to "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war 2\GameAssets\Data", but keep the sub-directory consistent with the archive. You can then edit the files using a text editor. When you start DoW II in developer mode, the modified files will be read. Chieh Cheng Hi, I understood and managed to extract the lua files and edit it. However how do I replace the original file with the edited file? There don't seem to be a function to update the archives with the edited files? Please advise. Viceroy There is a way to repackage as a mod. But it unnecessary unless you are planning on re-distributing your mod. If you leave your modified files in the correct directory structure under "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war 2\GameAssets\Data", you can load the game up in "developer mode" and play with your changes. Do you still need to repackage the ".sga" file, knowing this tidbit? Chieh Cheng I tried that and I even loaded the game on -dev mode. During mission game time I could even bring up the console using ` but I only see the normal bolter and sword. I checked and the directory was correct as well. I had the lua files in the "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war 2\GameAssets\Data" folder, I have the same copy in the "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war 2\GameAssets\Data\campaign\space_marines\missions" folder. It still does not work. Do I need to activate it on the console? Is it not working because I have already played Mission 1, and do I need to replay Mission 1 as a new commander? I know I am in developer mode as I could get into the console either only the "]}\" or the prompt with SCAR. Please advise. Viceroy Whether you need to replay mission 1 depends on what you are trying to do. You haven't explained what you are really trying to do. Chieh Cheng Sorry, I am trying to get all the war gear after mission 1 for the rest of the missions in single player mode. Thanks. BTW, your forum is the most informative of all the forums I have searched. Thanks. Viceroy Yes. You do have to start over and play mission 1 in that case. Of course, you can always modify other missions to do the same. But there is already example of doing it for mission 1: Dawn of War II: Get Bonus War Gears. If you want to do it for other missions, I suggest you get mission 1 working first. That way you can see the mechanics of how it works. Modifying other missions are not as straight-forward as mission 1. Chieh Cheng I've been looking actively for WEEKS for this information! Almost there. Hope you guys can help me. How can I use SGA editor for Chaos Rising to either: I want to add more points to my squad's stats, like about 6 points per level, instead of 2. I've loaded SGA editor, and see how I can now view and extract SGA files, but not sure where the particular fields I'm looking for are, or how to reinsert the modded data back into the SGA files. There aren't any working trainers out there, and this website is the closest I have found so far to useful advice that can allow me to do either of the above. Really hope someone can help. Thanks Maliusmaximus Hi I'm a complete noob to this kind of stuff, so could anyone give me a really basic outline to how to get this to work for DoW2/Chaos Rising? What I'm trying to do is mainly create my own items and whatnot, plus get those items that came with Chaos Rising when you first buy it. (My ever-friendly comp crashed which made me lose everything, inclusing thos items. x|) I saw somewhere that the pre-order items for DoW2 was already on the disc which made it easy to get, is that the same for the CR items? Anyway, any help would be appreciated, thanx. :) John Hi, I have a question. I have a file which is extracted from this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war 2\GameAssets\Archives\gameattrib.sga . I have put it in the directory: GameAssets\Data\Attrib\simulation\attrib\wargear\wargear\campaign\playable\race_marine\xp1\armour, and it doesn't work. I have activated the developer mode and I'm sure because I have spawned many wargear on the ground and used the FOW_RevealAll script many times to remove fog of war. I think the directory is wrong. Some advice, perhaps? Thanx in advance. Mohamad how can you tell which mission is which? I have extracted some missions but is there a rosetta stone out there which identifies them? D Hello! I'm trying to extract a large number of the sound clips at once. Do you know of any means of doing this besides extracting them one by one with the program you provided? Thank you! Riley Bren Hey there, Fahry I'm trying to change the unit count in squads, specifically guardsman squads. Does anyone know where in the directory I can find the settings for this? Justin Glover
