Windows Vista Ultimate on Asus EEE PC 1000 NetbookI recently installed Vista Ultimate from a bootable USB thumb drive on the Asus EEE PC 1000 with only SSD. Upgraded to 2GB RAM for #20. Aero grahpics, function key combinations, WIFI, camera, gadgets, web browsing; all running well. Speed acceptable. Runs Google Earth etc. But, killer is the Winsxs folder. On the my 8GB C: drive this "junk" file grew to over 6GB!!!! and still growing as I install more apps. That is a stopper. Acronis works well from XP or Vista. I created a bootable USB thumb drive with drive images for C: (8GB) and D: (32GB). So, back to the acceptable XP which replaced the original Linux. That was quickly restored from bootable USB thumb using Acronis recovery. Love this netbook. Fits in the tank bag on my Triumph Sprint for cross counrty trips. Use compact head phone set and Skype for roving phoning. anonymous
