Installing Windows Vista on Averatec 3120VRecently, I installed Microsoft Windows Vista on my Averatec 3120V laptop. Through out the process, I wondered whether Vista will be able to find the driver for all of the hardware in this notebook. Surprisingly, it automatically installed most of the drivers except for the sound card, modem, and an unidentified device (see screen shot below). Luckily Averatec provides Windows XP driver for this notebook at its support section: Driver Downloads. From that page, select 3120V SERIES, SL3120V-01, then the type of driver you rae looking for. The audio and modem driver both works on Windows Vista. Unfortunately, I could not figure out what the third unidentified hardware is. So I can't find the right driver for it. If you know what it is, please let me know. Chieh Cheng By the way, even though the LCD has a resolution 1024x768, Windows Vista sets the resolution to 800x600 at the start. So the fonts looks a bit weird. You should change the display settings to 1024x768 for more screen space and crispier fonts. Chieh Cheng HEY CHIEH IM JULIO CADENILLAS FROM PERU, I WANT TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE INSTALED BEFORE WINDOWS XP SP2 IN YOUR AVERATEC, AND WHY DO YOU PREFER WINDOWS VISTA...AND ALSO IF YOU MADE AN UPGRADE IN THE RAM MEMORY, I READ IN THE WEB THAT YOU CAN UPGRADE IT WITH A 512 MEMORY. THANKS JULIO CADENILLAS JULIO CADENILLAS The Averatec 3120V comes with Windows XP. I don't think I prefer Windows Vista. I just wanted to try it. I know have the Averatec 3120V triple booting Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Ubuntu 7.1. Yes, I have added a 512 MB memory module to it. See the first TrackBack below. Chieh Cheng
