Minecraft: Surviving the First Night

Minecraft survival mode is kind of like the zombies game, Dayz. You have to survive in a world where monsters comes out at night and ruthless kills you. You have to grind to build shelter and find food to survive. After jumping into the game head-first, I learned how to survive the first night the hard way. In this article, I will give you a solution to survive the first night within 5 minutes. And you'll need it due to the short day cycle.

The entire Minecraft day/night cycle lasts about 20 minutes. That's ten minutes for day and ten minutes for night. So you have ten minutes to set yourself up for survival.

The first thing to do is to set-up shelter. It's gotta be a shelter that monster's can't get in. By now, you should already know how to acquire blocks. If not, just hold down the left mouse button to break a block and right button to put the block down.

Sand and dirt blocks are easy to break down and acquire. They are also sufficient to build your first survival shelter. Lay down a block building that is three block high. It doesn't have to be very big; you can expand it later. But it's gotta be big enough to fit you and surround you in walls. It can't be so big that monsters can spawn in the building. (Until you learn to craft torches, you'll be stuck in darkness.

Two vertical blocks is needed for the door. Just before night time seal yourself in. You can put a roof over your head, but I prefer to see the sky for daylight. As long as you don't poke your head out, monsters won't know you are in there. And most monsters can't get over walls that are three blocks tall. At daybreak, you can break down the two block door and get out, leaving the rest of the building in tact for the next night.
