AiOBD Smog PreCheck Fails to Work

I am trying to use the AiOBD Smog PreCheck application on a Nexus 7. It connects to my Bluetooth OBD device (which works fine in Torque), but says it cannot get VIN and says it is running tests, but nothing gets run after a delay of several seconds. Instead I get an error telling me to run it again with the engine running (which I have tried). Once the report is done, everything says Unknown or Not Supported, and PreCheck FAILED with Unable to determine if check engine light on. This same result occurs on either a 2009 Porsche Boxster S or a 2009 Mercedes R350.

I'm using the free slots, but am more than happy to purchase unlimited if I can get this to work.
