Rio Carbon Volume Control FailureHey Mr. Cheng: Regius Regius, I had written up a complete chapter of taking apart the Rio Carbon and putting it back together in my "Hacking Digital Cameras" book. It's published by Wiley and available in book stores. Chieh Cheng Hello Chieh: I bought your book as an e-book from Wiley. I managed to open the case without wrecking the unit. It appears that the volume control/scroll wheel is a potentiometer. It is not clear that it is broken but seems that the wheel has separated from the pot. Have you had any experience repairing this? Would a couple drops of cyanoacrylate cement do the trick? Thanks. Regius Hi Regius, Based on your description, it sounds like a mechanical failure. Are you able to rotate the pod without the wheel, say, with your fingers or a pair of tweezers. If the pot still works and you can change the volume without the wheel, try your solution. Otherwise, you might have to find a replacement pot. Regius If you upgrade the firmware to 3.04 you will get around the broken wheel issue - for volume control. see here Broken volume control? - you need 3.04 revo I dropped my Rio Carbon (5Gb) a while back and falling on the volume control it broke it :-( I completely took it out then with a (very small) bit of super glue (gel so it would fill any gaps) I placed the control back in position using my fingers to feel where it wanted to go (I didn't open the case) I got it back in position :-) perfect ever since Mowcius
