Wireless Tether with Motorola Triumph?Got the highly anticipated Motorola Triumph at the local Best Buy yesterday. One of the biggest necessity was to be able to tether to it wirelessly. So last night, I threw my bag of non-rooted and rooted tricks at it. I documented my experience in this post. Last night, I installed Quick Settings. It couldn't turn on WiFi tether. I installed shortcuts that brings up the hidden tether menu. Both USB tether and WiFi tether has been completely stripped. Only the "Help" option is left. So, I rooted the Triumph with Gingerbreak. It took only 5 minutes and it even installed SuperUser for me. A piece of cake. Then I installed android-wifi-tether. It doesn't work, at least not in infrastructure made (apparently only Samsung phones has a special Softap tech that could enable infrastructure mode). I didn't test ad hoc mode, as it doesn't fit my need. I also tried no-root Bluetooth tethering with my Xoom. No good either. Right now, I don't think non-root wireless tether is possible. It doesn't even look like rooted wireless tether is likely. Mel Sad face. I think I remember reading that someone got USB cable tether running with root... Which I wouldn't want anyways. I think the Optimus V is fine for now. J Just picked mine up at Best Buy and used the 10% off coupon. There's a thread at HoFo on (unsuccessful) attempts of tethering with the Triumph. Hopefully, someone there or at XDA will find a solution soon. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1724977-Motorola- . . . gnowk Where did you find the 10% off coupon? Allen Best Buy 10% Coupons: Chieh Cheng Could the wi-fi hotspot be unable to work if the phone isn't connected to the cell network? I bought my Triumph yesterday, but have to wait until Wednesday to activate it on the Sprint network. Did you already port your number from your Optimus? I'll try the wi-fi hotspot tomorrow when I go live. mbgbradley Highly doubt it. I hadn't even tried routing and NAT between the cell network and the WiFi connection. I merely attempted to enable the WiFi and Bluetooth tether. And they don't even work at the base tethering level. But I'm looking forward to your attempt. It may shed some light on the issue once the phone is activated. Mel I finally tried ad-hoc mode with "WiFi Tether" on the rooted Motorola Triumph. My netbook is able to connect to it. But it leaves out devices without ad-hoc mode, such as Android tablets and Android phones. I installed Proxoid and was able to do USB tethering with it as well. Note: Proxoid does not require the phone to be rooted. Anyway, this is academic, because my Triumph isn't activated. So I don't know if routing/NAT works, but I'm guessing it would. Mel Got my MT at BB on 7/17/11 and activated it same day. Haven't yet rooted but am thinking about it with Gingerbreak 1.2?....finally got pdanet to work for tethering yesterday (had some problems with it at first)...haven't yet found a successful app for wireless tether but would like to....rather upset that rooting apparently won't do it either... smariner What device are you trying to tether with? Ad-hoc mode seems to work, so it's probably possible to wireless tether a computer to the Triumph. Mel A problem report has been started on android-wifi-tether for Motorola Triumph: Joe This may be as close as we can get to a WiFi tether: Only problem is that the tethered device must be rooted and the MTU changed. But I guess it's better than nothing. Mel This article provides a method for real hot-spot on the Triumph. Of course, it means you have to root your device and replace its operating system. But the prospect it excellent: Mel Tethering the Triumph is actually quite easy. Took me about 5 minutes following this... First root with Gingerbreak 1.2 Then.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sA8S4uzblGU Del
