Installing Android App Through TerminalMy wife recently upgraded from her Sprint HTC Touch to the new Samsung Epic 4G. So it was perfect opportunity to turn her HTC Touch into a small Android tablet for the kids. I had originally figured out how to install Android 2.1 on the HTC Touch, so that was a piece of cake. However, after installing it, I found that it didn't come with an usable file manager; the ASTRO file manager that came with it had expired. The only option left was to use the "Terminal Emulator" app. Through the web, I found that system apps are installed in "/system/app", while non-system apps are installed in "/data/app". I had a backup copy of AppMonster on the SD Card, so if I could figure out how to install it into Android using the Terminal, everything will work out. I tried the "install" command in Terminal and found it to exist and executable. So I attempted to install the "AppMonster 0.7.2.apk" with it. Unfortunately, the build in keyboard couldn't generate digits into the Terminal Emulator command-line. I was baffled at this problem. But I so found that I can set up initial commands for Terminal Emulator. To get there: Terminal Emulator -> Menu Options -> Preferences -> Initial command I sat-up the initial commands with the following commands all on one line: cd sdcard/appmanager; su -c install "AppMonster 0.7.2.apk" /data/app/appmonster.apk That did the trick. After restarting Terminal Emulator, the commands were executed. Back in Android home, I found AppMonster installed. I was able to use it to install my backup of the "ES File Explorer". I highly recommend this file manager as it doesn't expire like the others. Now I'm in the process of installing "Angry Birds"! Chieh Cheng I have been trying a recent FroYo installation on my XV6900, and it works ok, except I have not found a button/way to open settings at the system level or for any app. I followed your link for the buttons' functions, but see that one is omitted. Just how did you get into the term emulator "Menu Options" settings? TIA rokky I believe the Menu button is emulated with the on/off button on the top of the phone. Chieh Cheng
