Disabling the Virgin Mobile Theme Sound?

I have a Samsung Intercept Android Phone on the Virgin Mobile. Every time I turn it on, it makes a loud Virgin Mobile sound. And it makes another loud sound when I turn it off.

I recently found that if I turn the volume to off, before shutting down the phone, it won't make that sound when the phone turns off. The phone also won't make that sound when it turns on.

However, it means I have to wait till the phone boots up to turn the volume up. Or I might miss calls. And I have to remember to turn the volume off before shutting down the phone.

It's not a bad work-around. But I was wondering if anyone figured out a way to disable these annoying sounds completely.

Although the Virgin Mobile theme sound is lower and more bearable on the Motorola Triumph, it would be nice to turn it off completely. I found that the trick, I posted above, also works on the Motorola Triumph.
