Disabling Web Guard on T-Mobile SmartPhone Plans

When you sign up for a T-Mobile Android SmartPhone plan, T-Mobile defaults to filtering your content as "Young Adult", meaning you do not have access to all web contents. Some Android app won't even work, because it can't retrieve the content filtered by this "service". For those of us who wants absolute control over our phones, this "Web Guard" is more of a restriction than a service. You can turn it off, but it's not easily found. This post outlines the step so you can do it quickly.

1. Log in to your T-Mobile account at my.t-mobile.com.
2. Click on "Your Profile".
3. "Web Guard settings" shows under the "Phone controls" heading.
4. Click the "Edit" link next to the "Phone controls" heading.
5. Choose the level of filter you want: "Child", "Teen", "Young adult", and "Web Guard OFF".
6. If you choose "Web Guard OFF", you will be asked to fill out some personal details to verify your age. You need to provide your name, address, birthday, and last four digits of your social security number.

After you perform these steps, the change may not occur immediately, even though you'll get a text message right away to confirm your changes.
