PDA's should be marketed as portable game machinesSitting here at the Los Angeles International Airport, I found myself staring at the fellow passenger across from me. Like me, he is waiting at the terminal for a plane flight, except he's got a Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) to pass time. So it made me wonder--I am typing this blog entry on my HP Jornada 680e--why don't they market the PDA's as game machines as capable as the PSP? Today, they force us to carry a PDA for business and carry a portable game machine for pleasure. Of course, I could carry a PSP as well, but I'm already carrying a lot of gadgets: HP Jornada 680e, Sony VAIO PCG-505TS SuperSlim, Sony DCR-HC90 Handycam, Sony DSC-P92 Cyber-shot, yada, yada, yada. Our check-in baggage was two pounds over the fifty-pound weight limit due to all of the battery chargers I had to bring for all these devices. With today's processing power, it's not difficult to create a machine that can run both word processing software and game software. This hypothesis is quite proven on my HP Jornada 680e because I'm typing this entry in Microsoft Pocket Word right now and Solitaire is pre-loaded on this device. There are other games on the market for PDA's, but games like NBA Jam, Xenosaga, FIFA, and etc. are only available on the portable game consoles like PSP. I wish quality game developers like Electronics Art, THQ, and other would target the PDA's as viable game platforms. Chieh Cheng
