Tips on searching for recent blog entries

I have been using Google Blog Search whenever I want to seek out blog entries. So to monitor the TagCloud problem that I report in another thread, I went to Google Blog Search to look for "TagCloud problem". Unfortunately, few people even realize that TagCloud is having problem updating recently. So the blog search results date back to July, August, etc. These results are far earlier than the Thanksgiving time frame. I really just wanted to see December results.

Naturally, the first thing I did was to change my keywords to "TagCloud problem Dec". Appending the month to the search result works wonderfully for Google and Google Groups. However, it completely failed for Google Blog Search. In fact, the result was worse than not using the Dec keyword at all. At least the original search terms returned at least one to two December entries. The new search didn't return a single December entry.

Looking at the Google Blog Search more carefully, I realized that, on the top right-hand side, Google provides two options for sorting results:

  • Sort by relevance
  • Sort by date

It defaults to "Sort by relevance". After clicking on "Sort by date", Google Blog Search returned all the results with the newest being listed first.
