Technorati no moreA few month ago, I have tried to implement Technorati tags for my web sites. It would have been a fun experience for my users, because everyone would be able to add, edit, and delete tags. The tags should show up soon, if not immediately on Technorati. However, during prototyping stage, Technorati did crawl my page, but did not index it. And after a week of waiting, I finally sent an e-mail to Technorati. No response. Technorati also has a secret algorithm for determine which tag to index and so on. Their algorithm is secret to prevent spammers from learning the trick. With no communication from Technorati, I couldn't determine if their system is having problems with indexing pages, or if their algorithm has a problem with my page. I promptly gaved up on this fun project. It wasn't until I read kottke's blog on So long, Technorati that I realized that Technorati is having problems with indexing. Even hard-core bloggers are having a hard time getting Technorati to index their pages. Kottke has some suggestions on other blog services. I will be trying some of those soon. Chieh Cheng I have just heard wind that "Technorati About to Be Sold" . . . Is that why there are so many problems? Because their entire staff are working on selling their technology, rather than engineering it? Well, I am looking forward to Technorati being sold to a major search engine company. Then maybe they will have enough resource to respond to us common folks. Perhaps, once sold, Technorati will really be no more . . . Chieh Cheng
