Strange Firefox Phenomenon

Recently a strange phenomenon has baffled me. In Firefox, I would type in an URL such as "www.google.com". But instead of reaching its main page, I would get a Google page from my history. I had thought that some browser automation is in play here. I couldn't blame it on Microsoft for automating everything, because I am running on SUSE Linux

It turned out that on Linux, the focus changes depending on where the mouse floats over. As soon as I start typing in the Firefox URL box, a drop down menu of the history pops up under the box. Sometimes my mouse would drift down to one of the entries. When I push enter, Firefox assumes that I wanted to select the history that the mouse is hovering over.

In the screen capture below, the mouse pointer is floating over the first history entry (highlighted). The screen capturer software could not capture the mouse pointer.
