Amazon Product Cloud Widget is Slow!

Amazon Product Cloud Widget suppose to index the web page you put it on. Then it serves tagged links in a cloud format that is relevant to your web site. I thought it is a really nifty idea. Because it's automatic, no need for you to do much maintenance, other than putting it on your web page. And users might find some interest links, due to the close relationship to the content of the web page.

But after trying it out about six month ago, I stopped using it. The reason is because it slows down my web site. Every page I visit with the widget, causes the browser to hang for a few seconds. Like it's stuck. And it just leaves a horrible experience on me.

The other side-effect is that the tags aren't very relevant. For pages that has lots of visits, the tags do eventually becomes more relevant to the page. But most of the time, it just display popular links from the current pop-culture that has no relationship with the web page that it is on. In a sense, it's timely update is slow.

I decided it to try it again this week after forgetting about its difficiencies. But after six months, the same problems are still there. It almost felt like the Amazon development team don't improve their software at all. What a disappointment.

I know what you mean. I'm just trying out the cloud widget on my blog and it's terrible. It isn't that hard to build a simple Ajaxy cloud widget.

I guess the software development at Amazon isn't what it ought to be.
