Using AI Assistance to Unscramble Letters into WordsIn this article, we present methods to use Generative AI to help us unscramble letters to make words for Scrabble-like games. It doesn't play the game for us. Instead, it assists us in the game play. In this example, we use Microsoft Copilot. ChatGPT and other AI services will work similarly.

![]() It is my turn to move in the Wordfeud game above. The board is fresh, so there are plenty of room. There are two E's and a S, which provides plenty of opportunities. Since there is two DL squares and one DW square above and below the E, I'm expecting some words that can capture those points. I simply send my scrambled letters to the AI with this prompt, which does not include the E on the board):
Copilot responded quite quickly with the following:
![]() The first word, "defines", is perfect. It allows me to capture a DL and a DW squares for a total of 30 points. Too bad I couldn't capture the other DL square as well. Do you think there is a better placement? Or do you think there is a better word that Copilot missed? Another ExampleLet's try another example. In the following game, I can quickly come up with a lot of three letter words from the board and my hand. But I want to see what Copilot can do and whether it can find some words that can be placed parallel to words on the board. ![]() Since there are a lot of open spaces, I just want Copilot to make words from my hand. I sent the following prompt to Copilot: Make words using d i q t t o r.
The word, "doit", is just the ticket. Honestly, I never even heard of it; learning everyday. I can place this word in parallel to "HERDS" as shown in the screen shot below. ![]() Utilizing AI in this manner allowed me pick up 18 points, rather than 3 to 4 points from a basic 3 letter word. Do you see a better play than "DOIT"? Can you beat Copilot in this case? Related Links
