Notes on Lithium Ion Battery PacksMost, if not all, 18-volt and 20 volt lithium ion systems uses five 3.6-volt lithium ion battery cells (connected in series) to create the battery pack. Five 3.6 volt batteries provides 18 nominal volts. The battery pack provides 20 volts when fully charged. To increase the capacity of the battery pack--4 Ah vs. 2 Ah--manufacturers would add five more cells, connected-in-series, to the battery pack in parallel to the first five cells. 24-Volt Systems
