Wayne Dalton idrive Troubleshooting Tip #4 - Lubricate the Motor Drive GearsBeing mechanical, garage doors required constant maintenance. As the weather turned cold this week, my garage door started acting up again. This time, it would barely move up a few inches before stopping. So I performed the typical routine of lubricating the garage door hinges and wheels. But this time, the lubrication didn't solve the problem. Next, I checked the garage door balance and everything was ok. So, then, it must be the garage door opener, right? I disengaged the opener manually and activated it. The motor would barely spin. Is it the motor going out and the idrive finally need to be replaced after 20 years of faithful service? I noticed that the black disengaged gear on the left side turns. The photo below shows both black gears engaged with each other. I decided to try WD40 on the left gear to see if I can loosen it up from 20 years of gunk. It did! The gear turned a lot better after a little spray. I decided to spray it while it turns. And it now turns just fine. Idrive saved again. But is the WD40 the correct lubricant? Only time will tell. Not sure how to get any other lubricant in there. Maybe some silicone spray. CC
