One Month Old Car Battery is Completely Dead

My mom replaced a brand new battery into her minivan a month ago. She left, so I parked the minivan for three weeks. The car didn't start at all this past Saturday. I connected a battery charger on it today and it seemed that the battery charger didn't even "see" the battery. It was as if the charger isn't connected to anything.

What could cause a new car battery to go completely dead?
