Jelly Comb 2.4GHz Wireless Bluetooth Mouse Review

Packaging

The packaging for this Jelly Comb mouse looks quite OEM; it's just a plain tanned cardboard box. It's just big enough to contain the mouse, instruction sheet, and warranty information. The box is a reusable cardboard box, so you can always use it to carry the mouse or save it for another purpose.

Look and Feel

The Jelly Comb 2.4GHz Wireless Bluetooth Mouse comes in three different color schemes: 1) black with gold trims; 2) cobalt blue; 3) light pink; 4) black with black trims; 5) black with silver trims; 6) white with silver trims; 7) white with gold trims. During the Amazon Christmas Lightning Deals, only the first three options are available. I have chosen the black with gold trims version, because it looks rather classy. I want to use this mouse at work and I really don't need the attention that a blue or pink mouse might attract.

The Jelly Comb 2.4GHz Wireless Bluetooth Mouse is relatively thin. So It's fairly easy to carry around in hand, in a backpack, or in a purse. A power button on the bottom of the mouse allows you to turn it off when you carry it around. If you carry your mouse around a lot, then you'll definitely appreciate the ability to turn it off to prevent it from interacting with your SmartPhone or your computer.

The top side has a rubberized texture that are common to a gaming mouse. The rubberized texture is my preferred texture for any mouse.

Buttons

The Jelly Comb 2.4GHz Wireless Bluetooth Mouse have traditional button functions. Unlike other mice nowadays, it only has three buttons--left, middle, and right. And the buttons do not have the loud, clicky feel. Instead, they are quite silent, which is great for a quiet environment. Even though the buttons are quiet, they aren't mushy. Instead, the mouse buttons provide excellent tactile feedback. The button push is also just right; not too stiff and not too soft. Therefore, it's a great joy to use.

There is a fourth round button below the three mouse buttons. It allows you to toggle the DPI setting from 1000 to 1600 to 2400 and then back.

Scroll Wheel

When I saw the Jelly Comb 2.4GHz Wireless Bluetooth Mouse online, I was quite intrigued with its ball between the left and right mouse buttons. Could it be a trackball that's built into the mouse? Or maybe it provides side scrolling capabilities. But it turns out that it's just a basic up-down scrollwheel that is in the shape of a ball. It's a slight disappointment, but no different than any other typical mouse.

The scroll wheel has a rubberized texture. And provides positive tactile feedback when you use it. Even though it is not ribbed, I didn't experience any slipperage at all.

Symmetrical

The Jelly Comb 2.4GHz Wireless Bluetooth Mouse is completely symmetrical from left to right. That means you can use it with either hand.

I like using this mouse for work, because I can switch from left hand to right hand and vise-versa throughout the day. That allows me to exercise both hands and fingers, which prevents fatigue and carpal tunnel syndrome. I use a free small app called "Switch Mouse Buttons" to quickly switch the buttons around when I switch hand. See "Related Links" below for the app.

Dual Wireless Mode

The Jelly Comb 2.4GHz Wireless Bluetooth Mouse supports both Bluetooth wiress mode and 2.4GHz wireless mode. A mode button at the bottom of the mouse allows you to switch between the two. When you push it and it lights up blue, it means you switched to Bluetooth mode. If it lights up red, then you switched it to 2.4GHz wireless mode.

The Bluetooth mode doesn't require a dongle and you can connect the mouse to Android, iOS, and personal computers with Bluetooth capability. If your computer doesn't come with Bluetooth feature, you can buy a Bluetooth dongle separately. To pair the mouse with your device, switch to Bluetooth mode, then press and hold the mode button below the mouse until it flashes blue. I use the Bluetooth mode with my Android phone. It works very well and I have no problems with it.

The mouse also comes with a 2.4GHz wireless dongle, inside the battery compartment, that you can plug into your computer. Windows and Mac OS will automatically recognize the dongle. I use the 2.4GHz mode with my computer.

I like the fact that I can quickly switch between two modes to use with two different devices. Using the mouse with the Logitech K480 Multi-Device Bluetooth Keyboard, I can switch between my computer and my SmartPhone at will. I only wish the mode switch button is on top of the mouse rather than on the bottom. Right now, you have to pick up the mouse with one hand to push the mode button with the other hand. If the button is on top or on the side of the mouse, then you'll be able to switch modes with just one hand.

Battery Compartment

The Jelly Comb 2.4GHz Wireless Bluetooth Mouse has a battery compartment underneath the mouse. The battery compartment is shaped very similar to a Logitech wireless mouse. It has a 2.4GHz wireless dongle storage slot. And it has room for a AA battery. The mouse works with both AA alkaline battery and rechargeable AA NiMH battery.

With the battery in place, the mouse feels more hefty. It glides on the mouse pad smoothly and swiftly; not feeling like it's so light that it will fly off the mouse pad.

I prefer mice that uses standard AA and AAA-batteries over mice with built-in rechargeable batteries. That is because I can easily replace the batteries when they go bad, rather than throwing away the mouse and shopping for a new one.
