Wayne Dalton TorqueTube Problem After 18 Months

NEVER EVER get a Wayne Dalton torque tube system!!!! I had a new garage door with torque tube installed 18 months ago puchased through Doormasters in Red Deer, Alberta. The young man they sent to install it had a terrible time (probably untrained). The install took him about twice as long as it was supposed to. When he was done, the door was making a lot of noise so I called Doormasters to say that I had concerns about the install. So they sent an older fellow to check it. He said it was fine. And even though noisy, it has worked fine...that is, until last week...I went to open the door to go to work and it wouldn't budge. My son came to open it for me and could barely do so - it's a 8 x 16 door - and the spring(s) had broken! Doormasters/Wayne Dalton will not cover the new tube and/or their installation. Their warrantee is for 1 year only! Quite a lucrative racket having people replace these every 18 months, isn't it!? When I expressed my disatisfaction, the manager at Doormasters told me that particular torgue tube could have been sitting 'on the shelf' longer than other torque tubes or it may have been made with different metal or faulty metal!!! Can you believe it? How stupid do they thing people are?????? Long story short, it's always the Buyer's fault and problem. I will never deal with Doormasters again nor will I recommend them to anyone. Nor will I replace this torque tube. I'm going to find a reputable (if that's possible) company and have it replaced with the "old" spring system even though that's an expensive undertaking. My previous house had the old style system and those springs & cables were about 18 years old before they had to be replaced. My advice...stay away from Doormasters (their customer service is non-existent) and Wayne-Dalton toque tubes!
