Wayne Dalton idrive swing arm drops prematurely

I bought an idrive and it quit working within a month. The arm kept dropping prematurely, no matter what the detent setting was. There was also a small wire clip of some sort hanging out of a hole in the drive.

Wayne Dalton wouldn't help in the least. Worst customer service I've ever encountered. The drive still sits on the wall, two years after I bought it. Now it's nothing more than a door lock.

Avoid Wayne Dalton and their poor openers.

The swing arm is based on the physical torque of the motor in the idrive. It won't move until the door comes to a stop due to hitting the floor. If it comes down prematurely, it's likely that your garage door isn't operating smoothly due to the door stuck on the track rail. Another possibility is that your torsion springs are not adjusted correctly. This can happen if they are too old and can no longer support the weight of the door.

The small clip coming out of the hole on the side needs to be tensioned to the emergency door release. Look it up in the instruction manual.

My door isn't stuck. It moves up and down the full length with barely any pressure. And my springs are adjusted to WD's specs for that size door (which is also a Wayne Dalton product).

The small wire clip I mention has nothing to do with the door release. That part of the opener is fine. This piece came out of a hole in the bottom of the opener. Wayne Dalton's phone support couldn't identify it.

I appreciate your reply, but frankly, you don't know what you're talking about. The opener is crap, as many other unfortunate owners on other forums have noted and their customer support isn't any better. Until they own up to the fact that they sold a product that doesn't work, and they come to my house to fix it, my recommendation stands.

Avoid Wayne Dalton.

Perhaps, if you show us a pictuer of the clip that you are talking about, then we can help you out better. Right now, I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

But the opener has been working flawlessly in my garage on a very heavy insulated door for the past 6 month. And every installation problem (few) I was able to resolve myself without any customer support's help.

I had alot of problems with the two openers I just installed. These Openers will tale a ton of adjustments before they work properly. I had a friend of mine help me who has installed 6 of them now. You really need to make sure there is a 1/4 to 1/2 inch play in all the rolers and like Chieh said the correct amount of tention on your tortion spring. It took me about 8 hours to get everything just right on the two openers.

The only thing I do not like is the remote openers have a very short distance. I need to be with in 20-25 feet from the garage before they work.

I would recomend them but you really need to be patient and willing to mess with them to get it just right.

I just took out my iDrive. It is the best garage door opener I have ever seen. However, THE REMOTES WERE COMPLETELY WORTHLESS AND STOPPED WORKING AFTER FOUR MONTHS!! After a year and a half of getting out of my car to use the wall remotes to open my garage door, I decided to get a better opener. With the temperature being below 0 and my wife pregnant, I decided that we need to be able to open the door without leaving the car. Sad to see it go, but I still curse those damn remotes.

I installed my Wayne-Dalton iDrive and when I plugged it in it was dead. No beep as the instructions said there should be. I called the help line and they sent me a new control card which went in with a little fiddling and the openner worked great. Everything has been perfect for over a month, now. I am very pleased with their help desk and my new opener.

I have had the iDrive for torsen bar opener for about 4 months and I am on my third motor. The first two motors burned out. The windings would open where the motor was in the door down position and would not run from that position to open the door. If I turned the motor manually off the open windings the motor would open the door and work a little longer until more winding burned out or it ended up in the same position again. The problem seems to be when the door reaches the bottom and the motor swings down to the locked position the motor controller tries to drive the motor for another couple of seconds which over drives the motor eventually burning out the windings in that position. Wayne-Dalton says it is the motor manufactures problem but I don't think so. Other than the motor problem, which has a life time warrenty, the opener works fine on my door which is a 11 foot wide by 8 foot high insulated door. I am look to put an over current sense circuit between the motor and the controller that will open the motor circuit in an attempt to prevent it from burning out.

Wow. Thanks for letting me know that the motor has a life-time warranty. I haven't needed to replace the motor yet, but that piece of information will surely come in handy one day.

Just curious, did you profile the idrive recently? Did it produce the same problem very soon after profiling?
