Torquemaster Replacement Spring

Hi Folks!

I bought a house and the garage door has a Torquemaster spring hidden within the housing...I tried to lift the door and it is very heavy and wont stay in place when I lift it..So I poked around after reading the Manual online and I am able to turn the number dial to I assume continue winding it tighter...My question is two-fold

1. How can I tell if it is a broken spring or something else causing it..I was able to use a drill and have the counter assembly numbers increase..

2..This is embarassing but I released the set screw on the right side to try and reduce slack and the counterbalance cable came out completely and I have no idea how to get it back in so I can try and tighten with the set screw..I will assume I have to bring the counter assembly back to zero with the lock nut first..correct?

Thank you for your time on both questions.>Appreciate your time!
