Genie Screw Drive Garage Door Opener Operates Intermittently

I have a Genie garage door opener. It operates intermittently. At first, it just won't work once in a while. Now it only works once every few hours. Once it stops working, the unit just hums. If I let the unit sit for a few hours, maybe over night, it will work again once then repeat the same problem.

The door seems fine. It's well balanced and operates freely. I have sprayed the screw drive with WD40 and cleaned it. So it doesn't seem to be a mechanical problem.

People on the web mentioned that the capacitor is prone to failure. So I have ordered a new capacitor, which is part # 19988-A. But it hasn't fixed the problem.

The circuit board is 31184R. I placed an order for it. It will probably arrive next week. Has anyone had this problem before?

The original capacitor is the X-18004-B shown in the photo below. It is a 50 MFD 220 VAC 60 Hz capacitor.

Not sure what the 3629536 number means.

The 19988-A capacitor is a direct replacement, as mentioned to my by the Genie tech who helped me troubleshoot. The capacity label is engraved, so it's difficult to get a photo of the label. The following is the label verbatim:

The circuit board hasn't arrived yet. But I decided to rotate the encoder at the back of the motor. To my surprise, it is extremely difficult to rotate. I checked it with my other Genie 8600 Pro Screw Drive (a different model than this one) and found that it should be easy to rotate the motor and the large screw.

I uninstalled the garage door opener and the screw rail. Sometimes the motor was easy to turn and sometimes it wasn't. Plugged the opener in to the AC outlet and tried running it. I can tell that the motor gets jammed. When I tried turning it by hand, it was difficult until I unjammed it. There is a grinding feel. I think the motor's internal bearing or bushing is gone. It is an old garage door opener.

The screw rail is also difficult to turn. I have no idea why that would be the case. It's just a simple screw inside a rail. Maybe there is too much old grease on it.

Time to replace this garage door opener. I hope I can return the circuit board when it arrives.
