Genie 8600 Pro Screw Drive Garage Door Opener Operates IntermittentlyAbout two weeks ago, my garage door opener started operating intermittently. It would open the door slightly, then stop. Then we'd have to close it and open it again. This week it got worse. It might open it once, but won't be able to close it. Instead, it just sits there and hums. After a while, maybe an hour, it would work again once, but repeat the failure. This problem is similar to a problem I had with another, older model, which I documented in the "Genie Screw Drive Garage Door Opener Operates Intermittently " thread. Mel The photo below shows the full model number of this 1/2 HP garage door opener... CM8600IC/A Mel After calling Genie technical support, the tech recommended changing the capacitor. Apparently, capacity wearing out and failing over time is a reoccurring problem for all Genie screw drive garage door openers. EPCOS Mel I happened to have a brand new 19988-A capacitor for the other, older model, Genie garage door opener that I was trying to fix. It's dark brownish in color rather than white. But the spec looks about the same. Following is the label for the 19988-A: NGM ASSEMBLED IN MEXICO I decided to try this capacitor with the Genie 8600 Garage Door Opener. It worked! The garage door moved up and down with no problems whatsoever. Mel
