Chamberlain LiftMaster 3800PLD Randomly OpensWe had a W-D Liftmaster 3800 PLD with battery backup installed about 15 months ago as the iDrive was not recommended for our wooden door. Since the installation on about 4 occasions we came home to find the door open. The last instance this past weekend I know the door was closed but open the next morning so that prompted me to call the local W-D installer (they did the original install) to determine what was wrong. They came out to replace, under warranty, a defective Smart Control Panel, 398LM that an internal W-D memo stated would for no reason lose power and then need to be reset. During that visit, the technician said the defective Smart Control Panel was not the reason for the door randomly opening but stated that it is possible someone else could be on our channel. He said if someone with a W-D remote was opening their door at the same time our system was in learning mode, their remote would be on our system and able to open our door. He stated the remote had a range of about 100 feet and as we live in a complex, it is possible that someone else could have one of their remotes on our system. As some residents are not here for some portions of the year and depending upon exactly where they were when clicking their remote could account for the randomness of our openings. I didn't ask if it would make all remotes of the other person of just that single other remote also be on our system. My guess is it would just be that one remote. After replacing the Smart Control Panel, he programmed our remotes and said that should resolve the problem. Jim Z
