Android 2.2 Update Coming Soon for Samsung Intercept on Virgin Mobile? It is confirmed that Sprint has started distributing Android 2.2 operating system to the Samsung Intercept phone as of two days ago. Numerous folks online has mentioned getting this upgrade and are now enjoying the new features. Question is whether this update will make it to the Samsung Intercept on Virgin Mobile. After all, it's the same phone and Virgin Mobile USA is operated by Sprint. Several folks reported online that Virgin Mobile support and Twitter account vaguely mentioned that the update is coming for the Samsung Intercept phone. But is Virgin Mobile just feeding the public a line? Or is the update really coming soon? Chieh Cheng Today when I was on my virgin mobile intercept, a random message popped up where notifications usually are saying "apps2sd(android2.2)click to download from market" everytime i clicked it, they market would say nothing existed. I ended up taking my battery out and turning back on my phone to see if that would work. so far i still havent seen the message. maybe they accidentally sent it to me too early. Justin Is "app2sd" an app on the Market??? Still no Froyo 2.2 update on my Samsung Intercept . . . Chieh Cheng This blog article claims that the update is coming this spring: Chieh Cheng There is a slightly more definite date of 3/25 in this blog post: Chieh Cheng March 25 has came and gone. Still no 2.2 upgrade. Looks like there is no substance to the announcements. Chieh Cheng After pushing the update back three separate times, Virgin Mobile customers have received text messages informing them that the update will be rolling out starting Apr 11th 2011. Philip Balvanz You are right, Philip, I should give them more credit . . . I just got a text message from Virgin Mobile that state the following: "8682: VMFreeMsg: Starting 4/11/11, you will be notified of a phone software upgrade available for your Intercept. Click http://msg4u.us/isr for more information. Sent: 1:03PM" If you click on the link, in the text message, you will see a Virgin Mobile web page that state the following: "Within the next few weeks you will be receiving a prompt on your phone to update your Intercept phone software from 2.1 éclair to 2.2 Froyo. The update process will take 5-15 minutes to complete. Ensure that your phone is charged or connected to AC before clicking Restart and Install. Do not remove your battery during the update process. Woohoo! I'm so glad Virgin Mobile is providing the Android 2.2 update for Samsung Intercept. I hope for a smooth update roll-out. Chieh Cheng It's over eleven days now. I still have not received the 2.2 updated to my Samsung Intercept. They sure are rolling out slowly. Has anyone received the 2.2 update on their Virgin Mobile Samsung Intercept phone yet? Chieh Cheng While searching for news on the Froyo 2.2 update for Samsung Intercept, I came across this message post: " https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B-RdX8jZHzY2NTcwZmNiNDktMWY3Y . . . I downloaded the update file and am very tempted to try it on my phone. Chieh Cheng I got the Froyo 2.2 installed using the link above. It wasn't easy getting into the recovery mode on the Samsung Intercept. After a few hours, I finally figured out a consistent way to do it: 1. Turn off your phone. Now here is the tricky part: While the Samsung is on and the progress bar starts moving from left to right press these buttons in sequence, but don't let go of them: 1) Volume down. You have to press these buttons in this sequence and hold them before the progress bar moves half-way. Finally, let go of all three buttons. When the progress bar moves to about 3/4th way, the phone will enter recovery mode. The update is now running on my phone, but I haven't tried the updated yet. Going to try it now. Chieh Cheng
