Windows 7 - My first impressions
When the public beta was announced for Microsoft's new operating system I anxiously waited for the date to arrive. I wanted to see if all the good things I was hearing about the new operating system were true. When the day arrived I downloaded it and began the install.
The first thing that I was very impressed with is how fast and flawless the install went. It took just about 35 minutes to complete and when it booted up for the first time all the appropriate drivers were already installed. I logged in and Windows immediately picked up my wireless connection and I was good to go. I did not have to search for one driver.
The first thing I wanted to see was how quickly Windows 7 booted. It was actually much faster than I expected. As soon as I logged in I was able to get right to work. I did not have to stare at an hourglass as my programs loaded into memory.
The look of the new operating system will be familiar to anyone that has used Vista. I really like the tweaks they have made to the UI in Windows 7. Not only is it nicer to look at but it is also much more efficient. The new taskbar is fantastic and really organizes my open programs well. I can just hover over an icon in the taskbar and see all the windows that are open and click on the one I want to use. The “peek” feature is fantastic as well as I can just hover my mouse over the button and see my desktop.
From what I have seen so far I really like Windows 7. I think this may just be the operating system that will make people enjoy Windows once again.
