Sony VAIO laptop won't turn on - the cure!

For the past week or so, my beloved Sony VAIO SuperSlim PCG-505TS notebook remained dead in my closet. I had taken it out after letting it sit for a month or so. Upon flipping the on switch, the laptop remained dead.

I had practically taken it apart and made sure there are no loose connections. All internal organs were intact and connected. Short of a few loose screws, I couldn't find anything wrong with it. I even traced the power all the way to the motherboard.

By now, I had gut'ed by removing the hard drive, etc. But I still don't want to part with the notebook. So I did the only thing left, I went to read the newsgroups . . .

"Has the notebook been left unused for an extended period? I would recommend trying two things: leave it plugged in overnight, then attempt to boot it, or remove the battery and attempt to boot it. At the age of that model, I'd suspect the CMOS battery and Sonys of that vintage are curiously dependent on them." - Sony Vaio notebook won't turn on

Now, why didn't I think of that. I plug the notebook into the wall and went about my business (something about running the OLPC on my Windows computer). When I was done with my business, on my way to the kitchen to grab a midnight snack, I passed the little SuperSlim notebook. It's been plugged into the wall for an hour or two. I turned it on. Suddenly, the LCD flickered, the power LED came on, and the little fellow attempted to boot.

Without success, of course; the hard drive is gone. What glorious night! I'm gonna have a good day bringing this little guy back to life tomorrow.
