Commission Junction is Very Strict on VALID Tax Identification Number

Today, I've been trying to sign up for a Commission Junction account. I want to see what it has to offer. But every time I fill out its application, I'd get an e-mail back from them that says the following:

Dear Chieh Cheng,

Upon further review of your publisher application to join the CJ Marketplace (aka CJ Network), Commission Junction regrets to inform you that your application could not be processed or approved.

Commission Junction accepts only those applicants that provide a valid tax identification number in the "Tax ID" field of their application. Further, Commission Junction reserves the right to reject any potential publisher that does not provide this information.

You are receiving this email because your application did not include a valid tax identification number. Therefore, if you are subject to US taxes, please resubmit your application with a valid entry in the "Tax ID" field. If you are not subject to US taxes, please leave the "Tax ID" field blank, and resubmit the application.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. We apologize for any inconvenience and look forward to working with you upon solution of this issue.

Best regards,

Client Services
Commission Junction

That's interesting, because I am sure I filled out the tax identification field. So I try it again and still get back the same e-mail. Is their web site broken? I try a few more time before thinking maybe that I have to leave out the dashes in my tax identification number. Sure enough. As soon as I did that, I got approved. I guess Commission Junction had really strict rules on what is a valid tax identification number, because I was sure my tax identification number with dashes is valid! :-)

If you are entering your social security # do it in the format: 123-45-6789
