os boot from usb...have you guys built a usb external drive (not thumb/pen) that boots to linux? Charlie No. But it doesn't seem that hard . . . Linux automatically install GRUB, so there isn't any work there. I would assume, you'd stick that drive into your computer, install Linux on it, pull it out, stick it into an USB case, and stick it on the destination computer. Then in the destination computer BIOS, enable boot from USB hard drive. I just noticed on one of my desktop computers, last night, that there are three or four USB options: USB FDD, USB Hard Drive, USB CD-ROM, etc . . . So I guess each type of USB device is different and you have to pick the right one. And I suppose your motherboard has to support USB hard disk. What kind of trouble are you having? I would imagine that if you try to install Linux directly onto a USB drive with a hard drive 0 (primary hard drive) in the computer, you'd have a more complicated install process, because GRUB is automatically installed onto your primary hard drive. But I don't know if that's your situation, I'm just imagine what would happen if you did that. Chieh Cheng
