Moving Xubuntu Installation Between Computers is a Piece of CakeAfter installing Xubuntu 7.1 on the Acer TravelMate 331T, I realized that it's a bad choice, because the Acer TravelMate will not let you boot up with the lid closed. That meant I can't reboot this notebook server at will. So I decided to move the entire installation and hard drive to my HP Omnibook 500 notebook; I didn't want to spend time reinstalling it. The move was quite quite easy and successful. The only problem was that the graphics driver didn't work too well. No problem, after issuing the following command, it worked beautifully. sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg Chieh Cheng Once again, Xubuntu 8.04 exhibited the ease of moving from one computer to another. My HP Omnibook 500 finally died today. So I took my wife's Acer Aspire 3004WLMi to use as my new server. Her Acer Aspire 3004WLMi laptop computer has been having some problems lately(search for "Acer Aspire 3004WLMi" on this site to see more details), so it's time for her to get a new one anyway. I swap the server drive into her Acer Aspire 3004WLMi and it booted up to the Xubuntu login screen right away. No fuss at all. It recognized the ethernet port right off the bat. I just had to give it the same IP address as it had before and the server is back up and running! Good thing that the Acer Aspire 3004WLMi could boot up with its lid closed. So it serves as an excellent network server. Chieh Cheng
