Sony Clie PEG-SL10/U Needs a Charge Before Starting-Up

I have a Sony Clie PEG-SL10/U that always served me well on long trips. Because it uses 2 regular AAA batteries, has a black-and-white energy saving screen, has a Memory Stick slot, I am able to load up a lot of free e-books for leisure reading. Every time I take a long trip, I'd pull the PDA out of the closet and restore my data off the memory card.

I tried again this week. But after putting in two brand new AAA batteries, it wouldn't power up. So I fiddled around with it a little bit. And after quite sometime, it finally booted. It turned out that the PDA has built-in capacitor that needs to be recharged before the unit could power-up. Depended on the kind of batteries you used, charging it could take some time. Alkaline seems to charge the capacitor faster than NiCd and NiMH batteries. Once it's charged, it powers up instantaneously.

Doesn't seem like the NiCd and the NiMh batteries work too well with the Sony Clie PEG-SL10/U. The PDA kept resetting and loosing its memory. :-(
