Total Game Control Improves Driving Force Steering Wheel

A week ago, I reported that the Driving Force steering wheel worked great on my Windows Vista computer and the free TrackMania Nations Forever racing game. The only problem was that the pedals didn't work with the game even though Windows recognized it just fine.

At first, I worked around that problem by mapping the two shift pedals to the acceleration and braking function. But with quick turns on the steering wheel, it was really starting to hurt my wrist. The gas/brake tied to the turning of the steering wheel just won't work.

Total Game Control comes to the rescue. This $20 software allows you to map any game controller to any key. It recognized the Driving Force steering wheel right off the bat. I easily mapped the foot pedals to the up and down key for gas and brake, respectively. I've attached the mapping below for your convenience; just drop it into "C:\Program Files\Digital Transforms\Total Game Control\Profiles".

Driving Force steering wheel now works beautifully with TrackMania Nations Forever. I can use the foot pedals to accelerate and decelerate without tying it up with turning left or right.

The only problem now... I don't have an excuse for losing a race, which I often do. :-(
