Magic Duels: Methods to Acquire Gold Coins

To buy Magic the Gathering booster packs in Magic Duels, you have to acquire gold coins. Each booster pack costs 150 gold coins. In this article, I will explain all the different ways you can acquire gold coins.

Play the Story Campaign

Magic Duels provide a single player story campaign. In story mode, you can play Magic Origins or the Battle for Zendikar. Magic Origins has five stories and Battle for Zendikar has one story.

In each story, you play five card battles. Each battle is worth 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 gold coins (see screen shot below), totaling 150 gold coins. That means you can get a booster pack after completing each story.

But that's not all. Completing the first story--Gideon Jura--also gives you three booster packs. If you complete the entire story mode, you can purchase nine booster packs!

Play Skill Quests

During the story campaign, Magic Duels will attempt to teach you Magic the Gathering mechanics through Skill Quests. Because I'm a seasoned player, I skipped all of the Skill Quests until I found out that you can actually earn gold coins through completing each Skill Quest.

Luckily, you can still go back to complete all of the Skill Quests after skipping them. They are available under "Help & Options" -> "How to Play". There are four Skill Quests under "How to Play: Basic Magic" and there are eighteen Skill Quests under "How to Play: Advanced".

Each Skill Quest offers 5, 10, or 15 gold pieces. That's easy picking. You can see how much a Skill Quest is worth at the bottom right corner of the Skill Quest description (see screen shot below). If you have already completed a Skill Quest, the value will be a check mark.

Play Solo Battle

Magic Duels allow you to compete against AI. It's a great way to test out your decks and earn some gold at the same time. There are three modes when you play against the computer bot: Easy, Medium, and Hard. Each mode is worth 5, 10, and 15 gold coins, respectively (see screen shot below).

My suggestion is to build decks that is specifically for beating each of these modes and use them exclusively to farm.

Play Versus Battle

Magic Duels also allow you to play card battles with someone over the Internet, called Versus Battle. Each card battle is worth 30 gold coins (see screen shot below), when you win. So a booster pack is yours after five wins.
