Dawn of War II: Get Bonus War Gears

In order to entice folks into buying Dawn of War II at the retail stores and getting them to join the Microsoft Live Marketplace, various sets of different war gears are bundled as bonuses for different retail stores. However, the game comes with all of the war gears, it just doesn't let you unlock them all; you can only unlock one set if you are lucky to buy it from one of the participating retail stores. The good news is that with the develper mode, you can unlock them all!

To do so, add the following line to the "rewards" -> "wargear" section of any mission.

"wargear\\wargear\\campaign\\playable\\race_marine\\sm_wp2_chainsword_improved_0", "wargear\\wargear\\campaign\\playable\\race_marine\\sm_wp1_bolt_pistol_herald_of_the_coming_doom", "wargear\\wargear\\campaign\\playable\\race_marine\\sm_wp2_chainsword_blade_of_ulyus", "wargear\\wargear\\campaign\\playable\\race_marine\\sm_wp1_sniper_rifle_deathtouch_of_the_angel", "wargear\\wargear\\campaign\\playable\\race_marine\\sm_arm_scout_armour_grim_silence", "wargear\\wargear\\campaign\\playable\\race_marine\\sm_wp1_heavy_bolter_purge_of_victory_bay", "wargear\\wargear\\campaign\\playable\\race_marine\\sm_arm_power_armour_armor_of_the_destroyer", "wargear\\wargear\\campaign\\playable\\race_marine\\sm_wp1_bolter_unforgiving_truth", "wargear\\wargear\\campaign\\playable\\race_marine\\sm_arm_power_armour_armor_of_vandea", "wargear\\wargear\\campaign\\playable\\race_marine\\sm_wp2_powerfist_gauntlet_of_blood", "wargear\\wargear\\campaign\\playable\\race_marine\\sm_wp1_bolt_pistol_pistol_of_baal", "wargear\\wargear\\campaign\\playable\\race_marine\\sm_arm_power_armour_cuirass_of_azariah", "wargear\\wargear\\campaign\\playable\\race_marine\\sm_com_iron_halo_laurels_of_hadrian", "wargear\\wargear\\campaign\\playable\\race_marine\\sm_wp1_combat_shotgun_initiates_lesson_of_strength", "wargear\\wargear\\campaign\\playable\\race_marine\\sm_wp1_missile_launcher_unerring_thunderbolt", "wargear\\wargear\\campaign\\playable\\race_marine\\sm_wp1_plasma_gun_fearsome_light_of_faith", "wargear\\wargear\\campaign\\playable\\race_marine\\sm_acc_frag_grenade_packveterans_grenades"

At the end of the mission, you'll receive all the war gear. You can "Use SGA Reader 2 to Modify Dawn of War II Campaign" to extract and modify your mission files. But if you have no clue to what I am talking about, just download the attached file, which is the first mission to the campaign, and place it in the "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war 2\GameAssets\Data\campaign\space_marines\missions" directory.

Sweet! Can I make up my own wargear?

Erick Cortes
Mon, 02 Mar 2009 18:51:49 +0000

Sure, just use the SGA Reader 2 to extract the necessary files, edit them to your whim, and then put them back into the developer DATA directory or back into the SGA file.

Chieh Cheng
Mon, 02 Mar 2009 19:00:20 +0000

so effectively, you could lokk at the SGA files for all the other missions, and get the wargear from them, just earlier in the game?

How do you edit the .rbf files? It doesn't work in notepad

David Smith
Sun, 08 Mar 2009 21:05:03 +0000

Actually, you can just look at the entire list of wargear in the gameattrib.sga file. Then pick any wargear to add to the missiong. You can even use the deverloper console to drop any wargear on the ground, as mentioned in this "Dawn of War II Cheat: Having Too Many Unlimited Orbital Bombardment is Not a Good Thing " thread.

To edit RBF file, you have to get an utility called "RBFConv". This utility converts a RBF file to text and back. Once it's in text format, you can edit it with Notepad. Then use the utility to convert it back to RBF.

Make sure you have it in the right directory. Make sure the directory is "GameAssets\Data", and not "GameAssets\Archives\Data". The SGA Reader 2 always defaults to the Archives directory, but that's not where you want the modified files.

Chieh Cheng
Wed, 11 Mar 2009 17:38:21 +0000

ahh yes i had it in the archives directory!!!

Wed, 11 Mar 2009 19:09:46 +0000

ok i have it in the right directory now but do i just place the file in there or do i keep the sub directories too? also i placed the subs in there along with it and tried it and it did not work.

Wed, 11 Mar 2009 19:38:00 +0000

You need the full path. Assuming Dawn of War II is installed in "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war 2", the full path to the first mission is "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war 2\GameAssets\Data\campaign\space_marines\missions\ss1_sep1.lua". Make sure your full path is correct. That is the most likely problem you are having.

Good luck. If you still can't get it to work, try using the trick presented in the "Dawn of War II Cheat: Having Too Many Unlimited Orbital Bombardment is Not a Good Thing" thread to drop the wargear directly on your screen for pick-up.

Check to see if "-dev" is enabled by pressing the back-quote (`) during your mission. A terminal should pull down over your game. If it does, then you are in developer mode. If not, you've missed a step to enable developer mode.

Once you have developer mode working, try the trick I posted two messages above.

ok it did work i just didnt check my inventory for the items bc it said at the end of the mission that i had not picked them up but when i entered my inventory screen they were there so thank you for your help!!

Hey, how is this done exactly? I am in dev mod in my game and I downloaded the SGA reader and have opened up the gamedefault.sga and gameattrib.sga files. I only see the missions listed as .lua files in the missions directory within the sga file. I don't have any std campaign\space_marines\missions folder tree under the Data folder on my system, only within the gamedefault.sga file. So I am confused as to how I can add an rbf item from gameatrib.sga to a lua file within the gamedefault.sga?

Steve
Sun, 22 Mar 2009 16:18:27 +0000

When you double-click the LUA mission file in the SGA Reader, it will prompt you where to extract it. Save it under the "Data" folder with the full path.

i know i'm probably mdoing something stupid and obviously wrong but could you please point it out?
i bought the game through steam btw if that makes a difference.

Hey can you link the names of all war gear in the game. I can't find the mission folder but using the command in "Dawn of War II Cheat: Having Too Many Unlimited Orbital Bombardment is Not a Good Thing" i can make some items. I was just wondering if you could link all items so i could make everything.

I can not add the "ss1_sep1.lua" file in the "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war 2\GameAssets\Data\campaign\space_marines\missions" directory because I am only able to find upto the GameAssets folder, I can't find the "Data\campaign\space_marines\missions" in the GameAssets folder.

It has plenty to do with it because if he is using what I think he is, he is using a loader of some sort to bypass steam (because his copy is torrented/downloaded/your mom's/etc.) I have the same problem myself and cannot start the game in dev mode...I am currently using a trainer right now but that doesn't help in the slightest for getting good gear.

1: If i play campaign mission and online game, can I be kicked out because i hacked the game? I dont want to be kicked out for the little modified elements I will modify!

2: Is there a tutorial or a video to explain how can we install SGA reader 2 and what to do after installing it?

3: If I cheat just to have the achievement, is there a way to go back with the normal game after ( deleting all the modified elements)?

4: What is the safest place to download SGA reader 2? I don

5: Please help me!!! Im noob and I just want to beat the campaign with the hardest mode (Primarch) in DOw2 just to have my achievement!!!!!

For those who downloaded game via torrent, etc. and use a loader to start game, all you have to do is download Steam from http://store.steampowered.com/ Its free. When it is installed just make sure you are logged in, dont do anything else and then just click on your DOWII.exe shortcut and your -dev line will work.

Here is how I figured this out. Thanks to Chieh Cheng for his advice. So in steps do the following...
1. Download the lua file above

2. Create the folders in your "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war 2\GameAssets\Data\campaign\space_marines\missions" directory. Do not make the mistake of putting it into \GameAssets\Archives\Data folder

3. Put the lua file in there

4. Start the program with -dev in developer mode

5. Create a new profile and start again from Mission 1

6. During gameplay in mission 1, go into developer mode by hitting the backslash key (`). Run a command like "FOW_RevealAll"

7. Complete the mission and you should have all the wargears.

I could not get the wargear until I made the program execute a developer command, that seemed to switch it on for me. Strange.

It's been a while since I messed around with hacks in DOW2. But I believe you won't be able to load up a "developer" game save without using the "-dev" parameter. You are probably better off figuring out why "-dev" crashes the game and resolving it.

Hello,
I was recently looking at your instructions as to how to acquire the preorder items for Dawn of War 2, and I'm having a real problem with this. I'm not very good with computers, I'll admit it, so maybe you'll take pity on me. I have no idea what I'm doing with the whole "extraction" process. I know that I'm in dev mode because I can enter the command prompts in-game, but i don't know how to "extract" the files so that I can get to the campaign files and alter them. Where do I extract them to? How do I alter them, and do I do it in notepad or wordpad or what? This is the first time I have ever hacked anything (I'm not even sure whether or not this is hacking) and I have no idea what I'm doing. I don't suppose you could guide me through the process in baby steps?
I would be most appreciative of your help,

Zac D.

Chieh Cheng
Wed, 24 Feb 2010 01:52:42 +0000

I clicked on the link, but it just led me to a page full of text. I'm not sure if that's what it was supposed to lead me to or not, but I wouldn't know what to do with that. The other problem is that I can't get to the "campaign" part of this file path. I get as far as Data, and then all that's in the folder are two files; "Movies" and "Audio". Also, I'm not sure what the significance of the developer mode is. I'm able to get the command window up when I use Ctrl + `, but I'm unsure as to why that is recquired. In addition to this, I'm not even sure that I'm "extracting" correctly, because all I get from gamedefault.sga is a bunch of unintelligable symbols. When I look at the contents of the SGA 2 reader file I downloaded from your site, there is a bunch of other applications in the file that I don't know how to run (they won't open when I click on them). I know this is a lot of info from somebody who is addmittedly far, far below your skill level, but I'm eager to know what I'm doing wrong and would really appreciate it if you address my questions/concerns point by point.
P.S. I'm using windows 7, and I don't know if that would make any of a difference
P.P.S. I know this may be lame, but I would really like to be able to get achievements in this game, and I was wondering if that is possible with this modding/hacking/what ever.

Zac D.
Wed, 24 Feb 2010 03:57:52 +0000

1. You have to right-click on the attachment and choose to save the file.
2. You have to create all the directories from data up to missions.
3. You have to use the developer flag, or the game will not load this mod.

Chieh Cheng
Wed, 24 Feb 2010 06:41:53 +0000

Is there a way to move my save with all of the unlocked content into a new folder so that I can play it in normal mode and get achievements? I hate to keep bugging you, but I just want to know if there is a way to use this save to get them, as opposed to having to start a new campaign in normal mode.

Zac D.
Wed, 24 Feb 2010 18:13:09 +0000

I don't mind helping you at all. I just don't know whether you will get achievements in developer mode. I believe you will, since you haven't made any changes in that area. And you should be able to just remove the developer flag to play the normal game.

Chieh Cheng

Okay, I have a few questions about this.

I am attempting to modify the .lua file that you guys made for us, but whenever I try to add additional wargear to the rewards, the game skips the first mission entirely.

I didn't change any of the other mission settings, I only copy-pasted this list I've compiled of every wargear according to the codes used in the original .lua.

Could this be because of the game's updates? Because of Chaos Rising (No Chaos Rising Items involved in this)?

If someone could be so kind as to either upload a working mission 1 that has all the wargear from the original DOW 2 campaign or help me figure out exactly what I'm doing wrong?

Including the file as well.

I'd like to see if I can't get this to work properly.

Before I went and modified the original mission I downloaded off of here, I did get the wargear from it by using the FOW_RevealAll trick someone else discovered, however, when attempting to add additional wargear into the rewards, I cannot get it to work. It completely skips the first mission.

I made a list (using a text editor) of every bit of wargear I wanted to have. I then copy-pasted it into the .lua that was generously provided by this site.

Bit of help if you guys don't mind.

Hi Ryan,

One of your item's missing a comma at the end. Look for "“wargear\\wargear\\campaign\\playable\\race_marine\\sm_wp1_bolter”".

It also seems that -dev is broken when Chaos Rising is installed (or maybe just been removed in a patch?). Before, I used to be able to use this method for the items, no problem. But now I can't get the developer console to appear, even with "-dev". So my custom .lua couldn't get loaded either.

Sun, 13 Jun 2010 14:32:08 +0000

Ok I figured it out.

I'm on Steam, so I need to go to Library -> Games -> Right-click on DOWII or DOWII CR -> Properties -> Set Launch Options -> key in "-dev".

BUAH HAHAHAHAHA!!

Kan
Sun, 13 Jun 2010 14:47:57 +0000

Ok, there seems to be 3 issues:

1. "wargear\\wargear\\campaign\\playable\\race_marine\\sm_wp1_bolter" is missing a comma at the end

2. Your double quotes are wrong. e.g. you used “ instead of "

I've uploaded the corrected file. Note that some of the items seem to be corrupted. You can still exchange them for XP.

Mon, 14 Jun 2010 14:15:25 +0000

here's a thing: I can only add wargears after mission 1 of the original campaign (including stat bonus rites from chaos rising) but not with any other missions. For example i want to add some more wargears after the Falcon mission on Merridian so I do exactly what you guys describe (adding wargear lines in the .lua file) but nothing given after that, no wargear shows up. Can anyone add wargears from mission 2, 3 and so on?
besides, I import the previous commander to play in Chaos rising and also edit the lua file but nothing happens.

Alex
Thu, 15 Jul 2010 11:25:18 +0000

Apparently Relic has decided to unlock them all at this point. I'm playing the Campaign on Patriarch right now, and by the fourth mission I've already found most of these items on the battlefield, with the exception of the more powerful higher-level gear like the gauntlets and missile launcher. I assume it's only a matter of time before I find the those.

Something of note is that I have Chaos Rising purchased and installed, but I have no idea if that plays any factor at all.

I've discovered 2 things: you can't edit any lua file other than the first one and if you edit any file except mission 1 in chaos rising, sometimes later you can no longer proceed further since mission one in the original version will appear on Caldaris, still accessible but there'll be error!

Which .sga and .lua files, do I need to look in, to see all the available wargear. The random drops and preorder bonus wargear etc.. Is there a list of wargear to add using developer console, I can download.

Does this also work for Chaos Rising? Has anyone tried to make Chaos Marine Wargear available for the CR campaign? Be interesting to have your corrupt marines running around in Chaos Marine Wargear.

Can this be used to add more wargear to the Last Stand mode?

I commented on the page with the "Use SGA Reader 2 to Modify Dawn of War II Campaign" link, thought I would have better luck on the main page lol.

Anyway, I looked back on some comments and noticed the one where Zac D. had some trouble. Chieh Cheng gave 3 steps;

"1. You have to right-click on the attachment and choose to save the file.
2. You have to create all the directories from data up to missions.
3. You have to use the developer flag, or the game will not load this mod."

Now I'm at the part where you have to make a folder(s?) in the "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war 2\GameAssets\Data\campaign\space_marines\missions" directory. First of all, like Zac.D, mine only shows Movies/Sound, so if I "create all the directories from data up to missions" does that mean I have to beat the game so it'll make the files on its own or what? Please correct ANYTHING that seems to be wrong there, I'm not that good with computers at all, hopefully you guys will have patience for me. :S
