Shrinking Windows 8 Partition

Just got an Asus G46VW-BSI5N06 ROG gaming laptop. It's basically an super gaming rig in an ultrabook form-factor. Ok, not as small as an ultrabook, but about as small as you ever going to get in a gaming laptop for now.

It's got Microsoft Windows 8 pre-installed on it. At this time, Windows, by itseif is no longer sufficient in my life. I need Ubuntu Linux and Mac OS X. And one of my goals is to install all three operating systems on this awesome ultra portable gaming laptop.

But first thing I need to do, though, is to change the Windows partition size. The G46VW comes with a 750 GB hard drive. About 21 GB is used up by Recovery and EFI system. The rest is the Windows partition. I need to shrink the Windows partition so that I can have two more for Linux and Mac OS.

Windows 8 makes it really easy for you to do that, because it's "Windows Disk Management" now allows you to change size of existing partitions. You can start "Windows Disk Management" by right clicking the "Start" launcher and clicking on "All apps". Then just look for "Windows Disk Management" on that list.

After launching "Windows Disk Management", right click on the partition that you want to change. Select "Shrink Volume..." to make the partition smaller. Select "Extend Volume..." to make the partition larger. Then you just have to answer a few questions (the partition size, etc.). It's that easy.
