WD Elements USB HDD

Hi!

I use a 4 TB WD Elements USB HDD (USB PID: 107C )
EAN: 7 18037 82492 5
Model: WDBWLG0040HBK-EESN
with MBR and one 4TB NTFS Partition.
Logical sector size is 4096 Byte.

Now I bought a 4 TB WD Elements USB HDD (USB PID: 25A3).
Identical EAN: 7 18037 82492 5
and Model: WDBWLG0040HBK-EESN.
But logical sector size is 512 Byte.

How can I change logical sector size from 512 Byte to 4096 Byte?
My application requires 4096 Byte logische sector size.

The two hard drive looks the same, just formatted differently. You didn't specify what operating system you are using. But if you use Windows, you just have to reformat the hard drive using a different sector size.

In Windows, right click on the drive and click on "Format...". Then you can select the "Allocation unit size" as shown in the screen shot below.

thanks,I am using linux ubuntu.I want to be able to read and write the drive under Windows XP.Therefore a MBR is required.Windows XP dows not show the 512 Byte drive.
Formatting under Windows defines the cluster size not the sector size:

Couldn't you use Windows Disk Management to re-partition the drive? Like delete its existing partitions and then creating a new partition?

It sounds like you took the drive out of the enclosure. In some cases, the USB adapter remaps the sectors. There is a thread talking about it here: Toshiba Canvio Desktop External Hard Drive Disassembly
