SketchUp: Hole Does Not Pass Through at 3D Printing ServicesSome times when I make models with holes in SketchUp, after exporting them to DAE or STL file format, the holes are plugged in after uploading to 3D printing services. The screen shot shows an example of this problem. This occurs at both Sculpteo and Shapeways 3D printing services. Attached Image: Dak As you can see from the model below, it does indeed has a pass-through hole. But a hint where the problem lies is the circular line within the tube. Attached Image: Dak If we hide the back plane, we see that the model is not completely hollow. There are geometries inside the mode. These geometries confuses the 3D printing services. The solution is to remove all of the internal geometries. Attached Image: Dak The following screen shot shows all of the geometries are removed. Attached Image: Dak Once the model is hollowed out properly, uploading to 3D printing services works just fine. The screen shot of the model on the 3D printing service now shows a hole.
