Presto, And you're online !Just the other day, I was thinking about the Quick start option on my netbook which allows me to connect to the net in an instant without having to boot up Windows. It is a nifty little option which makes getting online a painless process. Too bad, it is available only on a range of Netbooks or is it??? On a whim I Googled up to see if any `instant on' RTOS or OS was available for older machines and I came across Presto, a Linux based Xandros product priced at $19.95. I downloaded the trail version which is free to try for seven days. Installation was quite straight forward and when I rebooted, I found the dual-boot option for Windows and the Xandros Presto Linux. The first boot took a little over 15 seconds while the system settled down, subsequent boot up time is around 5 to 8 seconds! Once it is up and running, Presto allows you to browse the web with Firefox, use the IM chat, connect via Skype, use the media player to listen to music or watch videos. You can even view and edit documents created using MSOffice suite. After playing around for a couple of days, I decided it is worth the 20 bucks and bought the full version. I must say, this software is worth every penny I shelled out. Sanjay
