Wiring AC Adapter Directly to Notebook Battery ConnectionHi I have seen your great article about rebuilding Sony laptop batteries. My sony laptop VGN-NS10L shorts the ac power connection out on the motherboard and will only work off battery (VGP BPS13B/B). do you think there could be a way to wire a mains power supply (matching battery spec 11.1v 3600mah) to the laptops battery pins....?? Please let me know! Many thanks. Karl It seems like an interesting idea. I have never tried this myself, so I can't tell you what will happen. But in theory . . . If you can find an 11.1v power supply that can supply 1 to 2 amp of power, it'd probably work. The 3600mah is just capacity of the battery. But you can probably do some induction on exactly how much power the notebook draw on battery by diving 3600 by the hours the notebook lasts on a brand new battery. If you have a spare dead battery, the best thing to do is to hollow it out, wire up the power supply to the correct pins on the battery. Then insert the battery into the laptop and see if it powers up. I can envision three possibilities (not including human errors):
If you try this experiment, please let me know your results. I think it's a very cool hack. Chieh Cheng I just realized that you can test whether the notebook will power up solely on the +/- pins without any risk. This assumes that you have a good battery pack that is charged up . . . Temporary connect the +/- pins on the battery connect to the notebook connector, without actually inserting the battery pack into the notebook. You can jury-rig this temporary connection with some wires and alligator clips. Press the power button and see if the notebook powers up. If it powers up, then your concept will work; the next obstacle is to find an 11.1 volt power supply. Chieh Cheng Thanks very much for your thoughts and your final idea- I will give this a try and see what happens. I will be experimenting on saturday so will let you know the outcomes. Karl Did you make any headway this weekend? Chieh Cheng
