Number One Cause of Notebook Failures

The number one reason that notebooks fail is because of dirty fan ports. When the air exhaust holes are clogged, the notebook CPU/GPU overheats, and the motherboard shuts the system down. The photo below shows a completely clogged heat sink holes that prevented this Acer Aspire 3004WLMi from functioning. Once the lints are cleaned away, the notebook ran fine.

After cleaning the exhaust port, be sure to clean the fan as well. No doubt the lint are sticking to the well worn fan (see photo below). You might want to replace it altogether.

The Acer Aspire 3004WLMi has a DC brushless fan. It's model number is AB6505HB-E03. It's a 5V fan that draws 0.25 amp of current.

Once you have the fan's model number, it's quite easy to find replacement parts on the Internet via a search engine, like Google search.

The easiest way to clean out the vents and the fan is with a can of compressed air. Using compressed air, you don't even have to take apart the laptop computer. Just blow the air through the vents and through the fan.

A compressed air can costs less than $5 on Amazon:
Innovera 51505 Compressed Gas Duster, 10Oz Can, 2 Pack

Just be sure to do it outside, because the microscopic dust gets everywhere. I have not thought of that last and have blew the dust all over my office.
